Sakurajima Eruption Sends Plume Over 2km Into Air

An eruption of the Sakurajima volcano in Japan on Friday, September 20, sent a plume of ash and smoke 2,600 meters into the air, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Sakurajima, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, erupted at approximately 4 pm local time, with residents of Kagoshima, five miles away, sharing videos and images of the eruption.
