Buying a house is one of the biggest purchases many of us will make. The costly milestone has been made even trickier as the cost of living crisis has squeezed disposable incomes and sent bills soaring, making it even more difficult to afford a home.

Add to this steep house prices and mortgage rates and the process is even harder for those looking to buy. But to make it a little easier, if you are a first time buyer - or even looking to move to another area - knowing what sort of salary you will need is helpful to know.

Using Zoopla data, we have taken a look at the average house price and salary that you will need to buy a house either in Coventry or one of the towns in Warwickshire. This gives a glimpse into how much you would need to spend to live in one of the areas.

Coventry

Average house price: £208,300

Average salary needed for a buyer: £39,340

As a bustling city on the up, Coventry is famous for its roots in car manufacturing but has a firm eye on the future with regeneration projects underway not only in the city centre but within its many communities. We're also the second largest city in the West Midlands - boasting plenty of places to shop, eat, sleep and visit.

Nuneaton and Bedworth

Average house price: £207,200

Average salary needed for a buyer: £39,140

Nuneaton and Bedworth is the largest district in Warwickshire. Nuneaton is famed for being the birthplace of novelist George Eliot while Bedworth proudly has proudly played home to the biggest annual Armistice Day parade outside of London for more than a century,

Both towns in their own rights and together as a borough, Nuneaton and Bedworth are proud to be market towns with a mix of high street and independent shops. But, in keeping with their ever increasing diverse communities, the two towns are set to benefit from regeneration schemes.

Rugby

Average house price: £272,700

Average salary needed for a buyer: £51,500

Rugby in the north of Warwickshire is the birthplace of rugby football having been invented in 1823 by a Rugby schoolboy named William Webb Ellis. It is a market town but is surrounded by a number of thriving villages.

The town centre itself boasts a mix of high street names and independent shops and there are several out-of-town retail centres including Elliott's Field Retail Park and Junction 1 Retail Park.

Stratford-upon-Avon

Average house price: £377,600

Average salary needed for a buyer: £71,320

Famously the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Stratford is in the south of Warwickshire. It attracts more than two million visitors a year to find out more about the Bard, as well as to visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

As well as being a hive of culture, Stratford also boasts a number of eateries and shops within the town centre itself. Away from the town centre, it is surrounded by a number of quaint villages.

Warwick

Average house price: £363,800

Average salary needed for a buyer: £68, 720

Based in the south of Warwickshire, Warwick is famed for Warwick Castle, another popular tourist destination with people from across the world. It is adjoined with Leamington Spa and Whitnash.

Another proud market town, Warwick town centre is famed for its historic charm and its specialist and independent shops and hidden gardens.

Solihull

Average house price: £316,300

Average salary needed for a buyer: £59,750

Just across the border is Solihull. While the town itself is urban, the borough of Solihull is mainly rural in character, with many outlying villages. Famed for being the birthplace of the Land Rover car marque, Solihull town centre boasts a variety of shopping facilities, including Touchwood Shopping Centre, as well as restaurants and places to eat.

It is relatively quiet compared to the cities on its doorstep and boasts an eclectic mix of the old and the new.
