Sam Fender Stuns Newcastle Pub With Impromptu Performance of New Song

Patrons at the Prohibition Cabaret Bar in Newcastle were left stunned on April 8, when “local musician and all round lovely lad” Sam Fender gave an impromptu performance at the piano of a new song.

Video shows the English singer-songwriter performing a new piece on the piano, before leaving to the warm applause of his audience.

Bar owner Mitch Mitchell told Storyful that it had been “a regular Saturday night” until Fender, who came in for a quiet drink, approached the house pianist a first time and did a duet to Ray Charles’s Mess Around.

“After the singalong they both went to sit at their tables and Sam began chatting with a few customers who had recognized him,” he said, adding that the artist had been “a true gentleman, humble and kind to staff and customers alike.”

“We’re so pleased he chose to drop by and share the gift of his music with us in such an intimate way. We’ll never forget his visit and wish him luck for his new album,” Mitchell said. Credit: Prohibition Cabaret Bar via Storyful

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

SAM FENDER: (SINGING) I was running, running home.

I've been [INAUDIBLE]. I remain forlorn of the memories.

She's gone crossing away. Our boy is a weapon, faster than anything.

Remember the prime that we found, or the tools made in myself.

You mend me, make my day, tell your story, it's your face, and I pray you'll remember my name.

[PIANO PLAYING]

I'm not sure what awaits.

[PIANO PLAYING]

It's never a fun with St. Peter on his gates.

But by God I will pray that I see you in some way.

[PIANO PLAYING]

On 11 Walk Avenue, it was something to behold. To them it's a council house, to me it's a home.

And I [INAUDIBLE], where the kids will play. It's never the same without you. You mend me, make my day, tell your story, I'll kiss your face and I pray you'll remember my name.

[PIANO PLAYING]

And I pray you'll remember my name.

[PIANO PLAYING]

And I'll pray you'll remember my name.

- Awesome.
