What did you miss?

Sarah Beeny has clarified what she really meant when she said her marriage was "hanging on in there by our fingernails".

She has been happily married for 31 years to Graham, 50, and they raise their four children: Billy, Charlie, Rafferty and Laurie, 12

The author, who got the all-clear in April after her breast cancer diagnosis, got everyone talking when she made the remark to Gabby Logan on The Mid.Point podcast,

Just months later, the Property Ladder star cleared up any confusion as she said it was meant to be a "funny joke" during her appearance on Lorraine on Tuesday to promote her new book The Simple Life.

Beeny had no qualms being honest when TV host Lorraine Kelly asked her about her marriage.

She said: "Do you know I did a podcast with someone and I told a funny joke which I thought was a funny joke about marriage. It was all the headlines.

"Every single newspaper, ‘marriage holding on by fingernails’. No it was just a really funny joke."

While she admitted marriage isn't easy, Beeny gushed about her husband for being so supportive.

She added: "I’m not going to say it is easy but I’m very lucky to have a husband and kids so supportive. My husband i’ve known for so long."

Elsewhere in the interview, Beeny opened up about having adventures with her husband as they built their lives together.

She said: "I've been with my husband for 31 years, that’s like forever. We've always had adventures. We dare each other into doing things. I think, do we regret it? No! We were 29 and we went and bought a derelict home with 32 bedrooms."

After getting the all-clear from her cancer diagnosis, Beeny revealed what she has learnt.

She said: "I've learnt from everything that life is a celebration while you are here." She added: "Largely life is fabulous isn’t it!"

Beeny had started writing her book The Simple Life before getting her diagnosis so she decided to contain her cancer within one chapter.

"It's how I felt about my life," she said. "It made me open up a box that I mostly swept up. My husband says my form of therapy is to pick up the carpet, sweep it underneath and then put it down.

"I had to open up a box. My mum died of breast cancer when I was 10. It was a combination of writing this book put it down on paper and then the diagnosis. Combination made me address grief in a more realistic way. We don't deal with grief very well in this country."
