Sat-navs in and reversing round a corner out: Driving Test changes coming into effect in 2017
The driving test is undergoing a major overhaul amid growing fears over the number of deadly accidents involving younger drivers.
Figures show that road collisions are the leading cause of death for drivers aged between 15 and 24 and the most fatal accidents occur on high-speed rural roads.
The four changes being brought in by officials are an attempt to modernise the test and make it more relevant to drivers who use sat-nav systems and technology while on the road.
Among the changes are including following sat-nav instructions while driving and drivers being quizzed on a Highway Code question while driving.

The new tests will include
Following Sat-Nav directions to be part of independent driving section
Independent driving part of the test increased from 10 to 20 minutes
Reversing round a corner will be replaced as will the three-point turn with “more real-life scenarios”.
A safety question to be asked while the candidate is driving
The changes will come into effect later this year.
