Satellite Imagery Shows Typhoon Koinu Strengthening as It Heads Toward Taiwan

Satellite images captured Typhoon Koinu “gaining strength” and moving toward Taiwan, as weather officials issued a sea typhoon warning in the evening on Monday, October 2.

These satellite images posted to X by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) show the typhoon pushing towards Taiwan on Sunday and Monday.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Taiwan by Thursday morning, Taiwan News and the Associated Press reported, citing weather officials.

The typhoon could also bring severe winds and heavy rains to parts of the Philippines, weather officials said on Monday, warning residents of flooding and landslides caused by intense rainfall. Credit: CSU/CIRA & JMA/JAXA via Storyful
