Scarecrow trail celebrates success with record fundraising total

Organisers of the Holbrook Scarecrow Trail in Trowbridge have managed to raise a record total from this year’s event.

They have so far counted up more than a £1,000 from the two-day trail which took place on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23.

Viki Barton, a member of the Holbrook Primary School PTA, said: “We have raised a record amount from this year’s trail.

“We had an amazing display of 34 scarecrows, including nine made by each class at the primary school, and sold more than 100 trail maps.”

This year’s theme was the letter ‘H’ and the trail began from the school in Holbrook Lane and covered surrounding roads.

Mrs Barton added: “It was quieter on Saturday than on Sunday, when we had a special meet and greet with Bluey from the TV programme.

This year’s scarecrow trail was the fifth organised by the Holbrook Primary School PTA, following a two-year gap during the Covid pandemic.

Some of this year’s funds were used to for Monday’s visit by Nelson Mandela’s former bodyguard Chris Lubbe to the school.

He was invited after Holbrook delegates met him at the Wiltshire Equalities in Education Conference in June 2023 where he was one of the guest speakers.
