Scared of the Dark spoilers follow.

In tonight's (April 18) episode of the new Channel 4 reality series Scared of the Dark, actress Donna Preston revealed her personal connection to the show.

Hosted by former EastEnders star Danny Dyer, the new series sees celebrities Paul Gascoigne, Scarlett Moffatt, Chris Eubank, Chris McCausland, Donna Preston, Chloe Burrows, Max George and Nicola Adams living together in total darkness for eight days.

Having spent the previous night in a cage called "the black hole", The Sandman actress Donna Preston opened up to Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt about a health condition that inspired her to take part in the show.

Donna revealed that she has a rare condition that could leave her blind and that she has to have a lumbar puncture three times a year to draw fluid out of her brain.

"This is the main reason why I chose to do this because of this condition, because one day I might lose my eyesight," Donna told the cameras before becoming emotional.

At this point, the contestants have spent over three days in complete darkness so far, and tensions were running high between Chris Eubank and the rest of the gang.

When ex-footballer Paul Gascoigne, aka Gazza, told a story about spending nine hours on a plane next to a dead man, Eubank became visibly agitated and told Gazza off for speaking "tragically".

During the episode, Eubank separated himself from the group for 11 hours, refused to take part in games and contributed to what The Wanted singer Max George called a "really awkward atmosphere".

After gathering his belongings, Eubank went into the vault, where it looked like he would leave the show.

"When you go out into the world, that's what you're going into: the dark. It's far more dangerous out there than it is in here. This is peace. Out there is a nightmare. I'm afraid of nothing," he said.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger — but viewers won't have to wait long to find out what happens next. The series returns for another episode tomorrow, April 19.

Scared of the Dark premiered on April 16, with an episode airing each night until April 20.
