'Scariest Ordeal' for Motorist as Floodwater Gushes Down Street in Wayne, New Jersey

Floodwater gushed down streets in Wayne, New Jersey, on September 1, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida hit the Garden State.

The Wayne Police Department reported roads closed, vehicles stuck in water, downed wires and trees, and manhole covers coming loose due to flooding.

Video here was shot by Augostin Almazi as the car he was in drove along a heavily flooded Willowbrook Boulevard in Wayne. Almazi said it was “the scariest ordeal” of his life, and that later he was “almost washed away” by floodwater in Little Falls.

New Jersey Gov Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency on September 1. “We will use every resource at our disposal to ensure the safety of New Jerseyans,” he tweeted. “Stay off the roads, stay home, and stay safe.”
