A local community is grieving the loss of a 43-year-old mother, scientist, and runner, who was killed while on her morning run on August 1.

Sarmistha Sen, of Plano, Texas, was found unresponsive by a witness near a creek off of a trail she frequented two hours after she had left for her morning run, according to CNN.

Police quickly ruled the case a homicide and have taken a person of interest into custody for a burglary that happened nearby. They are being held on a $1 million bond, and the case is still under investigation.

The Plano community has been shaken by the tragedy. A memorial has been set up near where Sen was found, and runners have been leaving shoes to pay tribute.

Sen’s husband, Arindam Roy, has set up a Caring Bridge page, to share Sen’s story, and a GoFundMe page; all proceeds will be donated to charities devoted to issues that Sen deeply cared about such as cancer awareness, cancer research, healthy living, and protection of the environment.

According to the CaringBridge page, Sen grew up in Bangalore, India, and she got married to Roy and moved to Plano in 2004. The couple has two sons: Neil, 12, and Ryan, 6. She studied at the University of Texas-Dallas and University of Birmingham, Alabama, and worked on cancer research for most of her career.
