A scorched Norton home has been cordoned off following a late-night incident.

Emergency services blocked off Beaconsfield Road on Friday evening after reports of a house fire. Several police vehicles and fire engines were called to the scene, with a cordon being erected in front of a damaged terraced property.

Pictures taken from the aftermath show a blackened front door and living room window frame, with smashed glass scattered across the pavement behind the blue and white police tape. A crime scene investigation van was also pictured at the scene on Saturday morning, with officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

The incident is believed to have taken place around 10.30pm on Friday, with residents claiming that the property is currently unoccupied. Teesside Live visited the scene on Saturday where two police vans and a fire brigade car were stationed along the street.

One woman, who has lived on the road for 10 years, said it was a shock to see the police on their doorstep on Saturday, describing the area as both "lovely and quiet." She explained: "I just saw all the flashing lights when I looked out the window. I saw the fire engines and then the police behind."

Her partner, who also wished to be nameless, added: "I was in the garden in my mancave, where I go every Friday. My wife rang me saying there were fire engines outside. I didn't see anything at all but it was about 10.15pm when my wife rang me and told me. I don't know anything else but the property has just been sold."

Another elderly resident, who has lived on the street for 70 years, said he saw several fire engines along the road but that he was in bed and saw nothing more. He added that he heard the sound of a motorbike "revving up" just before the incident took place - with another woman also adding she had heard reports of a motorbike at the scene during the ordeal.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson told Teesside Live: "We were called at 10.31pm last night to reports of a house fire. Two appliances from Stockton attended, there was a fire in the living room of an empty property. There was approximately 5% fire damage to the living room and scorch marks to the front door. A positive pressure ventilation fan was in use and one hose reel was used. The two engines left the scene at 11.09pm."

Teesside Live has contacted Cleveland Police for further information.
