We'll be honest... we missed the original Ghostface from the Scream movies when the show was reimagined as a TV series.

But fear not – or do, if masks aren't really your thing – because we're due to see him return in the show's reboot for season 3.

MTV has announced it is bringing back the original Fun World mask for a new run of characters and stories (via Bloody Disgusting), with production already under way in Atlanta.

We've also been given a description of how the new season is expected to shape up.

"Season three revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future – and the lives of his unlikely group of friends," it reads.

The cast lining up for the season features Scream Queens' Keke Palmer, RJ Cyler from I'm Dying Up Here, 13 Reasons Why's Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula of Recovery Road, rappers Tyga and CJ Wallace, and Giullian Yao Gioiello (Julie's Greenroom).

The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural's Brett Matthews is the third season's showrunner and executive producer, alongside Queen Latifah, Shakim Conpere and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment.

Scream's six-episode third season will be broadcast as an event over three nights in March on MTV in the US, although no specific premiere date has been announced yet.
