Scuba Diver Finds Camera She Lost Three Years Ago 600 Miles Away

A British scuba diver was stunned to find a camera she lost three years ago - 600 miles away in Sweden.

Even more amazingly, the camera still worked.

Adele Devonshire, 37, lost her camera while diving off St Abbs in Berwickshire, Scotland, in July 2013 when the clip holding it snapped.

She searched the shore for the Fuji camera and waterproof case but was unsuccessful.

However, the camera has now miraculously turned up three years later.

Last week, Adele saw an online post by someone who had found the camera perched on a rock on the shore of a small Swedish island.

It was discovered by Lars Mossberg, 57, in the fishing village of Gullholmen, which is on a 31 hectare island of the same name and home to just 90 people and no cars.

He found the camera sitting among sea grass and shells on the rocky coastline during his morning stroll a few weeks ago.

Although the plastic casing was scratched, the camera could be switched on without being charged.

Mr Mossberg tracked down the camera’s owner by posting some of its photos - featuring Adele’s father and her husband - on a “Lost at Sea” group page on Facebook.

The photos were recognised by one of Adele’s friends within just five hours.

The friend had only joined the 2,500 member group that day.

Adele, a mother-of-two and ecologist from Manningtree, Suffolk, said: “It’s mad really. I’m still shocked.

“To think that it had presumably been bobbing around in the sea for all that time - and still works - is remarkable.

“It just goes to show the power of the internet and the kindness of people.“

Mr Mossberg said: “The more I think about it and the journey it has been on, the more exciting it is.

“It’s really very, very good.”

He has posted the camera back to its owner.

“I never did buy a new one so I’m really looking forward to getting it back,” said Adele.

“It has been on quite the journey.”
