Sean Spicer's resignation sparks flurry of memes mocking his time in the White House

Sean Spicer’s snap resignation has led to a flurry of memes both mocking and celebrating his time in the White House.

Mr Spicer quit as Donald Trump’s White House Press Secretary on Friday just six months and one day after taking up the post.

He stepped down over the hiring of Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director, according to the New York Times.

Mr Spicer had many controversial moments during his time in the post including when he said Hitler never used chemical weapons and referred to Holocaust “centres”.

On his first day, he took to the podium and made controversial remarks about the size of the crowd at President Trump’s inauguration.

Mr Spicer said it was "the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period".

He also defended the US President's infamous "covfefe" tweet by saying it had a hidden meaning.

During his time in the Trump administration, Mr Spicer’s combative press conferences in which he often dodged questions and gave incoherent answers became fodder for jokes.

Oscar-nominated actress Melissa McCarthy performed memorable parodies of Mr Spicer’s press briefings, immediately going viral with her boisterous comic performance.

Some recalled the time he huddled among bushes with his team in the White House grounds to come up with response to Mr Trump’s abrupt firing of FBI director James Comey.

While others remembered him taking photos of President Trump as he sat in a truck and speculated over whether his next move would be to write a book.

Mr Spicer has been replaced by deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
