'I can see Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool this summer but only on one transfer condition'

BBC and Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has claimed that Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool this summer. But if the Egyptian was to depart, he reckons that he would command a fee of more than $125m (£100m/€117m).

Salah, who is under contract until 2025, is yet to get back to his best following an injury but he has still scored 24 goals this season while assisting another 13. The former AS Roma man turns 32 during the summer and it is thought that the Saudi Pro League retains an interest in him having been very keen last year.

"They are trying to make the Saudi league grow and having Salah there will will go to another level," Morrison said live on BBC Radio 5Live Sport (as transcribed by TeamTalk). "They have brought in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar. If you bring Salah in... and you made a good point Fletch, he is 31."

Morrison believes that the Reds could cash in on Salah if they receive a big enough offer. "No Liverpool fan or the new manager coming in would want to lose Salah," he continued.

"His numbers playing from the right-hand side are fantastic. His numbers are ridiculous. Will they be able to get a player who can replicate what Salah can do? But he is getting to that age where if you get over £100m for him, I can see him leaving this summer."

Losing Salah in the same summer as Jürgen Klopp is departing would seem like a very bad idea. But the speculation will continue because of Salah's contract situation. As it stands, Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will only have one season left on their deals when the current campaign is completed.

Liverpool.com says: What often seems to be missed in the conversation about Salah is that while he is 32 this summer, he has shown no signs (aside from his most recent injury) that he is on the decline. Once he gets back to his best, he could still have another couple of years at the very top of the game.

The player himself would be very unwise to move to Saudi Arabia now, too. Jordan Henderson has shown that the quality of that league will take a long time to build. When was the last time you saw a goal that Neymar or Ronaldo scored even on highlights, let alone live? Salah is still at the stage of his career where he deserves to be playing Champions League football and Liverpool will have that back at Anfield next year under a new manager, so it makes most sense to stay put and sign an extension.
