To mark the recent National Pet Day 2024, we asked for pictures of some Dorset pets and received dozens of responses!

The Echo’s special 8-page National Pet Day supplement will be printed inside Wednesday's Dorset Echo with an online photo gallery to follow.

The newspaper pull-out includes photos of dogs, cats, rabbits and some more unusual animals.

National Pet Day has been celebrated on April 11 since 2006.

The occasion was created by Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate who wanted to celebrate pets and to bring attention to the needs of many waiting in shelters to be adopted.

Research conducted by the National Institutes of Health and its partners has shown that owning a pet can contribute to our overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels.

Make sure you get hold of a copy of the Dorset Echo on Wednesday, May 8 for the special free National Pet Day 2024 readers' pets supplement inside.
