Rogue One's Riz Ahmed has swapped Scarif for West London.

A dark and moody first trailer has arrived for City of Tiny Lights, directed by Dredd's Pete Travis, which sees Ahmed star alongside Doctor Who and Penny Dreadful star Billie Piper, playing his long-lost love.

Co-written by author Patrick Neate and based on his novel of the same name, City of Tiny Lights follows Tommy Akhtar (Ahmed), a deadbeat private eye devoted to his ailing father who has a taste for cigarettes and bourbon.

When Tommy walks into his office one morning, he finds high-class prostitute Melody seeking his help and finds himself drawn into a sinister, dangerous world of religious fanaticism after discovering the body of a Pakistani businessman.

City of Tiny Lights also stars The Inbetweeners' Cush Jumbo, James Floyd and Roshan Seth, and is produced by I, Daniel Blake's Rebecca O'Brien.

Ahmed starred as Imperial pilot turned Rebel Bodhi Rook in the hugely successful Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, and recently spoke to us about how the diversity of the movie made sense to him.

"Maybe in some ways it is unusual for a big, tentpole movie to have a cast as diverse as this - an action movie notably headed up by a woman," he explained.

"But I think in many ways, even though it may not have been done very frequently up until now, now that it has been done, it feels weird that it hasn't been up until this point. It's a globalised world now."

City of Tiny Lights is out in UK cinemas on April 7.
