New sensory-friendly playground equipment coming to Enterprise park

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — New equipment expected to help with a child’s sensory development will soon be installed at Johnny Henderson Park.

On Tuesday, the Enterprise City Council approved the purchase of a Sensory Wave Climber Arch and Discover Cave.

The arch, intended for children ages 2-12, will include molded-in grips and handholds that “provide additional support for children of all abilities.” Children can climb the arch while “enhancing sensory development.”

The park’s new cave will allow children ages 2-5 to climb up and over or in and through and include hand grips.

The park will also install a fun mirror and 12” bells.

Billy Powell, Director of Community Services and Recreation, said the Enterprise Rotary Club will donate $12,000 to cover the cost of the new equipment.

“We are thankful for the support of the Enterprise Rotary Club and all they have done and continue to do to pour into our parks and facilities for the betterment of our community,” Powell said. “The Club’s donations have been instrumental in not only creating such a vibrant and enriching playground for our children but also in maintaining the equipment to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for years to come.”

The Enterprise Parks and Recreation department staff members will install the new equipment.
