Serial Island offender sentenced for Co-op, Sports Direct and TK Maxx thefts

A serial Isle of Wight offender has been sentenced after he admitted stealing over £500 worth of alcohol and clothes from Co-op, Sports Direct and TK Maxx.

Daniel Kilshaw, of Ventnor High Street, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on Friday, April 5.

The 43-year-old previously admitted four counts of theft, all committed in March in Newport and Ventnor.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said on March 7 at 5.15pm, Kilshaw stole £339 worth of gilets, coats and jeans from Sports Direct.

Ms Stone told the court that police later spotted Kilshaw on March 12 on School Green Road carrying a Sainsbury’s carrier bag full of clothes with TK Maxx tags still attached.

It was discovered that Kilshaw had stolen a further £127.99 worth of clothes from the South Street shop.

Ms Stone said Kilshaw also stole vodka, worth £19.25, from Ventnor Co-op on two occasions, on March 11 and 12.

Kilshaw has 39 previous convictions for 79 offences, including 32 theft convictions between 1997 and 2024.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said his client had already served the equivalent of six weeks in custody during his remand period.

Mr McGoldrick told the court Kilshaw is excited about moving to a new area of Ventnor, with a new social circle, and is hopeful of getting into employment.

Kilshaw was handed an 18-month community order to include 25 rehabilitation days and must pay compensation of £35.50 to Co-op and £339 to Sports Direct.
