Jessica Chastain responds to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo rumours

Just when you thought Netflix had basically everything you could ever dream of on offer, there's a new exciting release in the works! Bestselling book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is officially getting a film adaption thanks to the streaming platform, and it sounds amazing.

The novel, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, was published in 2017 and has since become a firm fan favourite as well as a New York Times Best Seller. Plus, it's not the only book of Reid's set to come to the screen; Daisy Jones & The Six has an Amazon adaptation in the works, while Malibu Rising is getting the TV treatment from Hulu.

Here's everything we know about Netflix's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo film adaptation...

Who will star in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo film?

Unfortunately, no cast members for the film have been announced just yet, with Jessica Chastain shutting down any internet speculation that she'll be on board to play Evelyn. She recently told E! News (via IndieWire) that there is "zero possibility" of her starring in the project, despite fan hopes, adding, "But I love how excited the fans are. When I was working on Broadway, every single day, they’d be outside, when I was signing, with the books. I just love how wonderful that fan base is. I look forward to watching it and I’m sorry to disappoint everyone out there!”

However, drawing from the book's plot, some reports have speculated that there could be two actors playing titular character Evelyn: one for her younger self, and one for her in the modern day looking back and telling her story.

However, some of the film's crew members have already been announced. Little Fires Everywhere creator Liz Tigelaar is leading the adaptation, according to Deadline. Plus, Tigelaar is also reportedly working on the adaptation of Reid's other novel Malibu Rising, so we're expecting lots of good things.

Who will direct The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?

In a tweet shared on the 29th June, Netflix revealed the writer and director behind the much anticipated adaptation. The official account wrote, "Excited to announce that Leslye Headland will direct and Liz Tigelaar will write the feature film adaptation of the bestselling novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid!"

Netflix announced the news via an Instagram post shared on their @netflixfilm account on 24th March. Featuring the novel's book cover, the post read, "⭐️Bestseller THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO is coming to Netflix!⭐️".

What will The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo film be about?

As the film adaptation is set to be taken directly from Reid's novel, we can expect much of the plot to stay the same.

Netflix gave fans a reminder of the book's (and now film's!) plot during their initial announcement, writing, "This hugely popular tale centres around reclusive Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo, who chooses an unknown reporter, Monique Grant, to tell her life story.

"Evelyn recounts her time in the Golden Age of Hollywood, her rise to fame, and her seven marriages — revealing stunning secrets and lies. But through it all one question remains: Why has she chosen Monique for her final confession?"

Is there an expected release date for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?

In the meantime, how about a re-read of the book to refresh our memories?
