Scotland's first hot day of the year brings some unique behaviours among the locals.

With the weather nearly soaring to 26C this weekend, we've chosen to highlight some of the unusual sights you'll encounter on a hot, sunny day in Scotland.

From shirtless sunbathing in unexpected places to outdoor living rooms, here are seven things you'll only see in Scotland when the mercury rises.

1. Shirtless Scots are a common sight

There's an unwritten rule that any temperature above 20C is 'taps aff' weather. It's completely normal to spot men strolling down the street, lounging in the park or cycling without a shirt on when the sun makes an appearance.

As long as no one is offended, going shirtless in public isn't against the law.

2. Scots move their living rooms outdoors

Scots will go to great lengths to soak up as much sun as possible. This often involves moving furniture into the front garden or even doing household chores outside.

Back in 2018, one sun worshipper became an internet sensation after dragging a leather sofa to Portobello beach to bask in the glorious weather.

3. Disposable barbecues become a staple

Why splurge on a pricey barbecue when Scotland only gets about a week of sunshine? The moment the sun comes out, Scots rush to the shops to grab a disposable barbecue and head to the nearest beach or park.

A trip to your favourite local beauty spot just wouldn't be the same without the aroma of charred charcoal and sizzling sausages.

4. Every pub, cafe, and restaurant will have a 'beer garden'

Sitting inside on a hot day? No thank you.

Beer gardens will always be rammed during a heatwave, and pubs and restaurants will try to accommodate our needs. This often results in very bizarre makeshift beer gardens, usually consisting of a couple of chairs and a folding table.

5. Folk will sunbathe anywhere

Back gardens, front gardens, balconies, grass patches on the side of motorways - you name it, we'll lie on it.

Scots will do anything to soak up the rays and get a tan. If you look up on a sunny day, you'll almost definitely see someone lying on the odd window sill or tenement roof.

6. Music blaring in the park

Go to any popular park during a Scottish heatwave, and you'll find it has turned into a mini TRNSMT.

People are in such good spirits that there'll always be multiple speakers blasting out the summer tunes.

And let's be honest, Scotland in the sunshine is glorious. If we had it all year round, we would be the best country on earth.

7. Supermarkets sell out of fizz

When the sun shines, we all rush to the supermarket to stock up on fizz, ice cream and ice lollies. It's like a treasure hunt trying to find cornettos and a cold Irn-Bru as everyone has the same idea.
