Next year, the first ‘intelligent’ talking sex robots will go on sale – but one academic claims that the technology could have serious consequences.

Dr Kathleen Richardson of De Montfort University argues that being able to buy a metal and plastic ‘slave’ to have sex with will make men think of women as property.

Richardson says, ‘I want people to stop thinking about the word ‘robot’ and think about the word ‘property’, and what we’re being encouraged to do is have relationships with property.

‘While we live in a world which still considers women as property, then it’s not too much of a stretch of the imagination to start creating property that looks like women and then encouraging people to have the same sort of relationships.’

She describes the technology as ‘dehumanising’ and ‘isolating’.

Realdoll creator Matt McMullen – of Abyss Creations – hopes to bring a talking sex doll to market next year.

He told the Daily Star, ‘It’s going to be an amazing new experience that no one has ever had before.

‘We’re trying to create the desire to have sex beyond the physical. In order for people to find themselves attracted to the AI – she’s really funny, she makes me laugh, she has the same interests as me.
