What We Do in the Shadows TV series pilot ordered: Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry and Natasia Demetriou join cast

FX is moving forward with their TV adaptation of What We Do in the Shadows, based on the Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement-directed movie of the same name.

A pilot episode has been ordered according to Variety, Waititi returning as director and Clement as writer — both will act as executive producers on the show.

While the duo originally starred in the movie it remains unknown whether they will appear in the series. Alongside the pilot announcement, the main new cast members were announced, featuring some of Britain’s best comedians.

Headlining the show will be Kayvan Novak, best known for the Channel 4 series Fonejacker and satirical movie Four Lions. Matt Berry — The IT Crowd, Toast of London, and House of Fools — will also star, as will Year Friends actor and Midnight Beast writer Natasia Demetriou. Rounding off the cast is Harvey Guillen who appeared in The Thundermans and The Internship.

The original movie was a mockumentray, focussing on a group of Vampires living in modern-day New Zealand. Waititi has previously said the new series will take place in America.

What We Do in the Shadows was a modest success, developing a huge following online after being released on DVD and various streaming services.

Another two spin-offs are also planned, including the sequel movie We’re Wolves, based on the group of werewolves seen in the original, and TV series Wellington Paranormal, which follows the Wellington City based cops Karen and Mike.

The series will be executively produced by Scott Rudin (The Night Of, The Newsroom), Paul Simms (Flight of the Conchords, Atlanta) and Scott Rudin Productions' Garrett Basch and Eli Bush.
