A shaken sex attack victim who was assaulted while on board a London bus confronted the suspect and took a photo of him with her smartphone.

Detectives are investigating the “deplorable” sexual assault which happened on the back seat of a bus on a Sunday morning earlier this year.

The young woman, aged in her 20s, boarded the route 25 bus in Tower Hamlets at around 7.30am on July 2 and sat in the middle seat on the back of the bus.

The suspect got on the bus at Whitechapel and sat next to the woman.

He then placed his backpack on his lap and appeared to be rummaging through his bag before sexually assaulting the victim, police said.

The woman confronted the suspect and he left the bus at Mile End Tube station. She followed him and then snapped a picture of him with her phone.

The man is described as Asian, aged between 60 and 65 and with grey hair and a beard.

DI Paul Smyth from the Met Police said: “We would like to talk to the man pictured about this sexual assault which left the victim shaken and upset.

“Sexual assaults of this nature are totally deplorable and we will always investigate these types of offences thoroughly.

“If you know who this man is, we would like to hear from you.”

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to please contact the police on 101 or via Twitter @MetCC. Alternatively, call Cirmestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
