'Shame on You': UCLA Official Gets Hostile Reception From Protesters

Protesters surrounded a UCLA administrator, identified by the student newspaper as Administrative Vice Chancellor Michael Beck, cursing him and shouting “Shame on you,” as officers descended on campus to break up a protest against the war in Gaza.

According to his staff profile, Beck is responsible for the UCLA Police Department and “has led initiatives focused on enhanced campus safety and security programs.”

The student-run Daily Bruin said at least 25 protesters were arrested after more than 100 set up three encampments on Monday, June 10.

The outlet said this was the third time encampments had been installed on campus to call on the university to divest from companies associated with the Israeli military.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the situation turned “chaotic” as police and private security guards formed a skirmish line and faced off with protesters behind barricades.

ABC7 reported at least one security officer was treated for injuries. Credit: @allen4liberty via Storyful
