Shanghai Disneyland Reopens With Coronavirus Controls in Place

Shanghai Disneyland has reopened to visitors for the first time since the theme park closed its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic more than three months ago.

It is the first of Disney’s 14 parks to reopen, with social distancing restrictions, limited capacity, and other controls now in place.

This footage, posted to Instagram by Disco Poppy, shows Disney characters waving to visitors from a distance, hand sanitizing stations at each ride, and new wait times and floor markers to guide customers on maintaining social distancing.

In the video, Disco Poppy explains that for the first time, Disney characters such as Minnie Mouse and Cinderella are not permitted to interact with or take photographs with guests.

According to reports, Shangai Disneyland released an instructional video on May 8, detailing that temperature checks would be in place, plastic gloves handed out on rides, and specific areas set up for face mask disposal, among other measures.

According to the New York Times, the Chinese government has limited capacity to 24,000 people per day, less than one-third of the park’s usual capacity. Disney was planning for even fewer visitors, its chief executive said. Credit: Disco Poppy via Storyful
