Hopefully Shayne Ward is feeling less hurt after winning Best Soap Exit at Monday night’s Inside Soap Awards.

The former X Factor winner, turned soap actor, won the award for his controversial suicide storyline as Aidan Connor in Coronation Street.

A delighted Shayne Ward thanked former Corrie producer Kate Oates in his acceptance speech and encouraged the soap to keep on ‘tackling these issues.’

The award comes just a week after Ward claimed to feel ‘really hurt’ for not being nominated for the 2019 National Television Awards. Coronation Street has received six nominations for Best Serial Drama Performance, but Ward was surprisingly left off the list.

In a heartfelt and now deleted tweet Ward didn’t hold back in expressing his disappointment. He wrote “This was the one I worked hard for” and “It’s always a blessing to be put forward for a nomination. And I’m always humbled. But to have not even been considered for Best Serial Drama Performance for Aidan’s suicide has really hurt me.”

However, his post was met with mockery and criticism by many users, prompting him to delete the Tweet and publish the below apology.

Ward also debuted a brand new look at the award ceremony. The actor who usually sports a shaved head look, now has an fuller head of dark hair and matching beard.

Ward told Press Association at the event that his suicide storyline was ‘humbling.’

“It’s so overwhelming and so humbling. It’s a collective of people bringing a storyline and resonating with the people out there.

“We’ve got to deliver everything with truth and we’ve got to resonate with people at home,” Ward said.

Coronation Street dominated the Inside Soap Awards this year, winning eight awards, while Emmerdale won four and EastEnders two.

Corrie broke Emmerdale’s winning streak, who had dominated the award ceremony for three years consecutively.
