There's no telling yet if there will ever be a Justice League 2 thanks to the first one underperforming last year, but if it ever happens, it's possible that Shazam will be joining the team.

The original Captain Marvel is launching next year in Shazam!, which tells the story of a teenager who can transform himself into an adult hero just by shouting the acronym from the title of the movie.

The film will definitely be set within the world of the DCEU, and as you can see in the photo below courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, it will include references to both Superman and the Daily Planet in Freddy Freeman's bedroom:

Shazam! Producer Peter Safran hinted to EW that he "wouldn't be surprised to see Shazam play a role in the DCU" going forward, stopping short of confirming anything official.

That tease alone was enough to excite adult Shazam actor Zachary Levi, who beamed: "I would lose my shit if that happened, I would lose all of the shits.

"I remember thinking, 'If I get this and if this movie does well enough and if Justice League does well enough and they make another Justice League… maybe I'll be on that next poster with all those guys'."

Well, Justice League definitely didn't do that well, Zachary, but there's always hope of Shazam!, Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984 turning things around for the DCEU.

Shazam! will hit cinemas on April 5, 2019. A teaser is expected to debut at Comic-Con.
