Sheridan Smith closes her triumphant West End run in Funny Girl

The curtains closed on the hit West End show Funny Girl on Saturday night, with Sheridan Smith looking happier than ever as she left London’s Savoy Theatre following her triumphant final performance.

The critically-acclaimed actress – who played comic and singer Fanny Brice, famed for tunes Don’t Rain On My Parade and I’m The Greatest Star, in the production – stepped out to an adoring sea of fans after the show.

Sheridan, 35, took a leave of absence from her starring role in the musical due to stress and exhaustion in mid-May, returning almost two months later to an overwhelmingly positive reaction from fans in July.

This came after Sheridan accused the press of “bullying” after accusations were made about her reaction to missing out on the Best Leading Actress award at the TV BAFTAs.

Speaking of DJ Fat Tony’s support at the time, a source told The Sun: “She’s been through some real highs and lows and he’s been there throughout to support her. He’s now acting as her sober sponsor and she relies on him a lot.”

After making progress and conquering her comeback, the Gavin and Stacey star is set to return as Fanny Brice when Funny Girl begins its UK tour next year.

She is not scheduled to appear at all of the venues on the tour, but will make several appearances in cities across the country including Bristol, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin.

Tickets are now on sale for the Funny Girl UK Tour in 2017, which will open at the Manchester Palace Theatre on February 18 - BOOK ONLINE.
