Shopkeeper Fights Off Robber In Superhero Mask - With A Fan

He may have been wearing a superhero mask, but a would-be robber proved himself little more than a hopeless villain after a shopkeeper fought him off – with a fan.

Sivakumar Thangavelautham, 44, was working behind the counter when an armed thug burst into his store.

The masked raider demanded he empty the till, but Mr Thangavelautham threatened to hit him over the head with a fan that was lying nearby.

The raider, who was wearing an Iron Man mask, fled the scene and is now being hunted by police.

Mr Thangavelautham said: ‘The guy came into the shop and ran round the back of the counter.

'He pulled out a knife and told me to open the till but I told him I wasn’t going to do that.

'I picked up the fan and threatened to hit him over the head with it. He didn’t like that and just took off out of the shop.

'I have never had trouble like this before and I have never seen a robber like that in my life. For a robber, he was hopeless.’

The attempted robbery happened at the Roslin Store in Aberdeen at around 7.20pm on Tuesday.

The male raider has been described as approximately 5ft 10in in height and slim build.

As well as the mask, he was wearing a two tone light and dark blue hooded top, dark jeans and black trainers with distinctive white soles.

Detective Sergeant Martyn Thomson, who is investigating the incident, added: 'He presented a weapon before fleeing the shop towards the city centre.
We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and has any information to come forward.’
