Shopper spots Domino’s worker buying potato wedges in ASDA to sell to customers

An eagle-eyed Asda customer claims she spotted a Dominos Pizza worker buying supermarket potato wedges to sell on to customers.

Sinead Sarah took a picture of the pizza delivery staff member – who was wearing his work uniform at the time – stacking up on multiple bags of the side order yesterday afternoon at the branch in Greenhithe, Kent.

She tweeted the photo to Dominos, writing: “Thank you @dominos – next time I spend £3.99 on tiny portion of potato wedges I’ll remember there from Asda!!![sic]”

The company tweeted Sinead, 27, back asking for more details and Sinead told Yahoo News UK that she is still waiting for a response.

She said: “I understand they may have ran out from their supplier but I am appalled by the mark up on these £1 a bag wedges to the £3.99 they charge for a minimal amount of wedges.

“I feel the least their employee could have done was remove his Domino’s hat & coat!

“As a loyal Domino’s customer I feel cheated.”

She added: “I feel ASDA should get some glory for this!”

A Domino’s spokeswoman said that they were investigating the incident.

She told Yahoo News UK: “With a big sporting weekend, very occasionally our stores are in an unfortunate position where some products may run out.

“We do not advocate this as a solution and are investigating.

“We have rigorous food standards where our franchisees buy all food from our approved suppliers to help maintain the high standards customers rightly expect.”

This is not the first time that Domino’s staff have been spotted buying food from supermarkets to sell in store.

In 2014, shopper Tom Sneddon caught a worker buying 59p bags of potato wedges from the Linlithgow branch of Aldi in West Lothian after the takeaway branch ran out.

Sinead’s colleague is currently battling the courts to keep his parental rights so his six-month-old son has a chance of treatment and is attempting to raise £750k to pay for it.
