Black Friday always falls on the fourth Friday of November, which is the 24th in 2023, and the sales usually extend through the weekend into Cyber Monday. But this year the sportswear giant launched the sale a full eight days early, giving us even more time to pick up our fave activewear at a seriously good price
So, what exactly is Black Friday?
Originating in America, Black Friday refers to the annual post-Thanksgiving sales — which are chaotic, to say the least. The event was thought to be kick-started by department store Macy’s in the '30s, but the term 'Black Friday' wasn't officially coined until years later.
Fast forward to the upwardly-mobile times of the '80s (cast your mind back to Wall Street bankers and the 1988 film Working Girl, and you'll get the vibe) and the manic shopping period we know and — kind of — love today began to truly take shape.
Amazon was the first to give Black Friday a whirl in the UK, offering customers online discounts and deals on the same day as the sales in the US. Asda came next in 2013 with its in-store event, which included huge discounts on TVs and tech (there were physical fights, FYI).
Now, Black Friday has overtaken Boxing Day as the the biggest shopping event of the year, with most high street retailers taking part in some way.

Nike's standard shipping takes 2-4 business days and costs £4.50 However, this fee is usually waived for Nike Members — sign up for free here.
If you need your Black Friday haul a little sooner, opt for the spennier £8 Next Day delivery instead.
Returns are free via post or in-store. Last year, Nike kindly extended its return period from 30 to 60 days. Ideal if you're buying Christmas presents for a loved one.
