Shrewsbury Town among clubs chasing Cheltenham Town forward George Lloyd

Shrewsbury Town are one of three League One clubs chasing Cheltenham Town forward George Lloyd.

The out-of-contract striker also has interest from League Two.

He has been offered a new deal by Cheltenham, but the 24-year-old is fully expected to move on a free transfer this summer.

After progressing through the academy from Under-10 level, Lloyd signed his first professional contract with the Robins in December 2017, at the age of 17.

By then, he had already made his first team debut against Swansea City Under-21s in the EFL Trophy and he went on to make seven League Two starts before the end of the 2017/18 campaign, scoring twice in three starts.

Since then, Lloyd has spent time on loan at Hereford, Port Vale and Grimsby Town, playing under current Shrews boss Paul Hurst for the latter, when he netted five goals in 18 starts during 2022/23.

Shrewsbury's director of football is Micky Moore, who left Cheltenham last summer.

Lloyd scored both of Cheltenham's goals in a 2–0 win over Shrewsbury Town on Boxing Day.

Of the five players offered new contracts by Cheltenham at the end of the season, Liam Sercombe, Sean Long (both Forest Green Rovers), Will Ferry (Dundee United) and Luke Southwood (TBC) have all moved on.
