Update: Liz Carr has released a statement following her horrific stabbing ordeal last week.

The Silent Witness actress posted on social media on Wednesday (August 16) "to say an extra 'thank you' to the amazing paramedics, ambulance crew & A&E staff", and confirmed that she will be back filming the BBC series next week.

She wrote: "Thanks to everyone who has sent their love and good wishes following last week's stabbing.

"Just to reassure you that whilst it was very frightening at the time, I came out of it relatively unscathed and was even back home later that night.

"Looking forward to returning to filming on Silent Witness next week where thankfully all the violence is fake!"

Original story: Silent Witness actress Liz Carr is recovering after being stabbed in the head by an attacker with scissors last Thursday (August 10).

Wheelchair user Liz was with her carer near London's Euston Station when a man in his 20s rushed at them. The man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Scotland Yard said in a statement (via The Mirror): "Police were called at 8.21pm on Thursday, August 10, to Euston Road, near to Euston station, to reports of a man attacking two women with scissors.

"Officers and LAS attended the location. The two women were taken to hospital suffering minor cuts and subsequently discharged.

"One of the victims was in a wheelchair. She was with her carer who was the second victim.

"A man – aged in his 20s – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH. He was taken into custody at a north London police station. He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.

"Enquiries continue."

Liz, 45, has played scientist Clarissa Mullery on the BBC's long-running crime drama Silent Witness since 2013.

The actress has a rare genetic joint condition called arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and has used a wheelchair since the age of 7.

She is also a disability rights campaigner in the UK, and was in the news earlier this year when Lorraine Kelly came under fire for telling her she has "funny bones" in an interview.
