If you feel like The X Factor just hasn't been the same without Cheryl, then Liam Payne has some very good news for you.

Speaking to The Sun, Liam revealed that his girlfriend is in talks to return to the show full time next year at Simon Cowell's request.

"Cheryl and Simon spoke about her going back next year," he said. "Obviously Simon is desperate to get her back.

"Cheryl and Simon have such a lovely relationship. Obviously she's been off for quite a long time with [their son] Bear but it was great for her to get back out and do the Judges' Houses."

This weekend will see Cheryl back on The X Factor to help Simon choose his final three groups to take forward to the live shows.

And Liam is 100% supportive of Cheryl getting back to work as soon as she's ready to as well.

"She's got to do what she's got to do. Honestly, she's been so supportive of everything I've done so far," he said.

"We're all edging for her to get back to work, it's just finding the right time and the right way to do things."

In fact, it sounds like Cheryl's making some very big plans for her career.

"She's really happy with the way things are going," Liam said. "As you found out from her, she's had the best six months of her life.

"She's very busy in 'mum land' at the moment, but also quietly gearing herself up for something.

"In the future, maybe we will have to think of a baby-proof tour bus."

Liam also spoke about his own music career, revealing that his debut solo album will be out "around January" and adding that "it's finished now".

He also teased that a One Direction reunion is all but certain, saying: "I know it's a definite thing that will happen. I've got a weird feeling it might be sooner than we think.

"It could be a really, really great show – we can each go out and do our own thing and then come back together."

Whether that reunion would feature Zayn Malik – who apparently doesn't get on too well with his former bandmates – is yet to be seen.

The X Factor continues tonight (October 21) at 8.20pm on ITV.
