The music boss guided the British boyband to success after they met on The X Factor and though they are taking a break at the moment, he teased fans by predicting a dreamy reunion with the original line-up.
Could Zayn be the prodigal son of One Direction?
He said Zayn could ‘100% return’ and added to The Sun newspaper: ‘I always believe that you don’t make rules, you break the rules. So there’s nothing to stop them, if they want to, getting together for a tour, for an album. I made it absolutely clear, obviously, ‘We’re in’.
But, in almost the same sentence, he snatched the dream away by adding that the group could reform ‘without’ Harry.
Errr, sorry, what?
Excuse us, we just need a moment.
He did, however, admit that it ‘it wouldn’t be the same.’
It’s not the first time that someone from 1D’s camp has wished for a reunion.
Back in May, Niall made our hearts leap for joy after admitting that he would drop everything to get back together with the band.
And he said Zayn is definitely invited.
He explained: “You know, it’s fun being out there on your own but what I hope is going to happen is that they remember now how much fun it was being in a group.
‘I told my managers from the start: When One Direction comes knocking, f**k what I’m doing. I don’t give a s**t if I sold out arenas or won Grammys. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for that.’
There’s no doubt that their fans would like to see less talk and more action on the topic, as there are currently no concrete plans in place for the boys – which includes the two fathers in the group Liam and Louis – to perform together again.
