No matter how experienced you are at driving, your car can throw up nasty surprises.

We're talking about wing mirrors getting clipped, tyres blowing and mysterious warning symbols appearing on our dashboards. But one of the more unusual problems is linked to your steering wheel.

When you're driving along, you may notice the steering wheel start to tremor. It can be very alarming – but thankfully, there's a way to address the issue.

TikTok user @masterdriver_666, who often posts handy advice for her 735,000 followers, recently explained the cause of a shaky steering wheel – and it's not always bad.

She recommends getting the brake disc polished out, or replacing it entirely if needed. She said: "Pay attention. If your car is travelling at high speed, as soon as you step on the brake pedal, the whole steering wheel keeps shaking. Release the pedal and the shaking will disappear."

She further advised: "The repair shop will let you replace the steering gear, brake fluid and disc, but it costs $3,000 to solve the problem. Now let me tell you why this happens, it's caused by the uneven brake disc on the front wheel.

"Spend a little money and get the brake disc polished off, or just replace it and the problem will be solved."

The informational clip garnered more than 1,100 likes and plenty of comments from grateful drivers. A follower wrote: "My one was a hot spot on the disc, yes polish it out smooth."

Others were more sceptical about the video though – and pointed out another problem could be to blame. One commenter suggested: "It could be the tyre's problem though."

If you have concerns about your vehicle and are unable to address them yourself, it's always worth calling in a professional. Better to be safe than sorry!
