Skier Rowan Cheshire Tweets Sochi Injuries Pic

Winter Olympics medal hopeful Rowan Cheshire has tweeted a picture of her swollen and bloody face after spending the night in hospital following an accident during training.

The 18-year-old, who is suffering from concussion, was due to compete in the ski halfpipe event on Thursday.

On Twitter, Cheshire wrote: "Wasn't the best day yesterday, still don't remember much! Thanks everyone for the lovely messages."

The Olympic News Service said she fell heavily on her face and was unconscious for several minutes after falling at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, which is hosting ski and snowboarding events at the Sochi Games.

It is currently unclear whether she will be fit enough to compete.

On Sunday, the British Olympic Association said: "Team GB halfpipe skier Rowan Cheshire fell during halfpipe training this evening."

"She was attended to by the medical team at the halfpipe then taken to the polyclinic in the Mountain Village for further assessment.

"She will be evaluated further during the coming days before a determination is made about her fitness to compete."

Cheshire was tipped for success in the Games after taking home her first World Cup title in Calgary last month.

Her fall was the latest in a series of accidents to plague the Sochi Games in recent days.

Swiss aerials skier Christopher Lambert was taken to hospital on Sunday after a heavy fall. He is believed to have dislocated his right elbow.

In Sunday's women's snowboard cross competition, Norway's Helene Olafsen and American Jackie Hernandez were both injured during qualification.

Meanwhile Russian ski cross athlete Maria Komissarova has undergone a six-and-a-half hour operation after sustaining a broken and dislocated spine during training on Saturday.

Britain has so far taken home two medals in the Winter Olympic Games.

On Friday Lizzy Yarnold clinched Great Britain's first gold in the women's skeleton and slopestyle snowboarder Jenny Jones took home bronze on the opening weekend of the Games.
