A popular harbourside pub has been sold to American businessmen. The Sloop Inn in St Ives has been owned and operated for years by the Symons family as part of the Tremorna Inns Ltd group.

Tremorna Inns, which used to have a registered address in at Peat House, Newham Road, Truro, has now changed hands after being acquired by a newly-formed company, Brewco CWL Limited. The new firm, which was registered with Companies House on March 19, has an address at Eddington Way, Birchwood, an industrial estate in Warrington, which is located between Manchester and Liverpool.

According to Companies House, Brewco CWL Ltd has four directors: Alessandro Raul Cesan, an American citizen residing in Australia; Esteban Orlando Cesan, an American citizen residing in the US; Raul Elbio Cesan, an Argentine residing in America; and Wayne Thilwind, a Brit residing in the UK.

On Companies House, Scp Commercial Worldwide, which has an address in Monaco, is also listed as having invested in Brewco CWL Ltd. Alessandro and Esteban Cesan as well as Scp Commercial Worldwide were also listed as being directors of the St Ives Brewery back in 2021.

All four are now directors of Tremorna Inns Ltd and its subsidiary Symons Inns Ltd as of June 7 after Brewco CWL acquired the Cornish business.

There have been unconfirmed rumours circulating in St Ives that the Sloop Inn, which dates back to 1312, had been sold for £10 million. While a very prominent pub on the harbour front of one of Cornwall's most popular tourist destination, £10m would seem steep for a single pub.

However, as listed on Companies House, Tremorna Inns Ltd does have several other assets including the Pendarves Arms in Camborne, Park house in Fish Street, St Ives, which runs past the pub from the harbour, a car park at the back of the pub, a property on Park Lane in St Ives, and three cottages on The Wharf on the waterfront.

A Symons family member denied that is the case saying the car park at the back of the Sloop Inn is not owned by the pub and they do not own the Pendarves Arms. They also said the sale of the business was no way near the rumoured £10m price tag but did not want to say how much the business had been sold for.

A Notice of Relevant Entity and Person with Significant Control was filed with Companies House on June 20 confirming that Brewco CWL Ltd now owns Tremorna Inns and all its assets. It reads: "Brewco CWL Ltd holds, directly or indirectly, 75 per cent or more of the shares in the company (Tremorna Inns). The relevant legal entity has the right directly or indirectly, to appoint or remove a majority of the boards of directors of the company.

"The relevant legal entity (Brewco) holds, directly or indirectly, 75 per cent or more of the voting rights in the company." Other documents filed with Companies House show that Harry Maurice Symons and Henry Howard Symons are no longer directors of Tremorna Inns.

While the Sloop Inn is very much still trading, there has been no indication yet as to what will happen to it or its staff and the other assets now owned by Brewco CWL Ltd and what plans they may have for the future.
