Smethwick bar shooting update as man from Birmingham arrested in attempted murder probe

A man has been arrested after gunshots were fired in a bar in Smethwick yesterday morning. Three people were injured during the early hours incident.

West Midlands Police said they received multiple calls to Avenue Bar and Restaurant, on Rolfe Street, at around 3.30am, on Monday, June 17. A man, aged in his 40s and a man, in his 20s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. They remain in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

A third victim, a woman in her 20s, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged. Now police have said that a 23-year-old man, from Birmingham, has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm and assault. He remains in custody for questioning.

Road closures in the area are being lifted and police has thanked the public for their patience.
