An alleged thief has provided police with a crucial bit of evidence – after he accidentally left a picture of himself at the crime scene.

The man, seen above, allegedly triggered a photo booth’s camera after attempting to prise open its money draw to steal from it.

Police said the man entered the booth at the Funway amusement centre at Batavia in Illinois, and took about $S75 (£52).

The machine is designed to take photographs when being tampered with – and managed to take three of him.

The incident took place in November 2015, but the makeshift mugshots were not discovered until after an engineer had fixed the booth.

The Batavia police posted the pictures on Facebook and asked for anyone who recognises the alleged offended to contact them.

The post read: “On November 25, 2015 the above Offender entered a photo booth at Funway Amusements in Batavia where he pried open the cash drawer and took approx. $75.00 in cash and causing approximately $75.00 in damage.

“The machine is designed to take photographs when it senses tampering to the cash drawer. The report was delayed until the owner could get a repairman to pull the offenders images from the machine.”
