Smiling Steve Clarke pounces on mistaken identity gaffe as Scotland boss makes one thing clear

Smiling Steve Clarke had to remind the press room who really is the Scotland boss - after one reporter accidentally introduced HIMSELF as 'Steve Clarke.'

Clarke (the real one) was in an upbeat mood after his team battled to a 1-1 draw with Switzerland that kept them within sight of his target for qualification. Four points will almost certainly be enough to send us through to the last 16 of Euro 2024, and with one now on the board thanks to Scott McTominay's strike, which was later cancelled out by Xherdan Shaqiri, it now rolls over to a final day shootout in Stuttgart with Hungary on Sunday.

It was a mixed day at the office for Clarke, whose side might have won it if not for some shakey defending. And he also lost Kieran Tierney to injury, one he revealed is a 'bad one' which will keep him out of the Hungary showdown.

But the optimism is flowing again and that was evident no more clearly than on the grin of the typically stone-faced boss in one moment during his post-match debrief. One reporter stumbled over his words, introducing himself as 'Steve Clarke' before moving onto his question.

And the actual Clarke couldn't let the moment pass as he cut in: "You're no Steve Clarke, I'm Steve Clarke. Are you getting confused? Has he been out (drinking)?" The light-hearted takedown sparked brief hysterics with the reporter himself seeing the funny side before serious matters resumed after 20 seconds of chuckles.
