The driver of a Mercedes tried to 'sneakily' insure himself after being pulled over by police during a traffic stop. The motorist was stopped by West Midlands Police officers in West Bromwich.

However after officers pulled him over, the driver tried to get his partner to insure him online. But officers said they "weren't born yesterday".

Incredibly, the driver already has nine points on his license. That means he will likely be banned from the road following a conviction, the officers said.

A picture of the silver-coloured Mercedes, which appeared to be a GLE model, was seen on the back of a flatbed lorry following the traffic stop. WMP Traffic shared the incident on X/Twitter, writing: "The driver of this Mercedes in #Westbromwich sneakily tried to get his partner to insure him online after being stopped. That’s not how that works… and we weren’t born yesterday he already has 9 points so will likely be banned on conviction. #driveinsured #ANPRInterceptors"
