The “Snowpiercer” series was canceled after running for three seasons on TNT, but AMC salvaged it for its fourth and final season.

Per the official synopsis, the show is set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. “Snowpiercer” centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival play out while Andre Layton (Diggs) escapes the ever-moving train.

Season 3 left off with character Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) leading the Eternal Engine for the passengers who chose to stay aboard Snowpiercer for relative safety, while Andre took the others on Big Alice to choose to adventure to the unknown, the outside world of New Eden.

Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Sam Otto, Chelsea Harris, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina, and Sheila Vand co-star. New Season 4 cast members include MCU alum Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov.

The series is produced by Tomorrow Studios, with Paul Zbyszewski, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner executive producing.

Scott Derrickson, along with the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi, also executive produce in addition to Matthew O’Connor and Ben Rosenblatt.

The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner) along with CJ Entertainment. ITV Studios distributes “Snowpiercer” internationally.

The series debuted in 2020. Diggs told IndieWire at the time that the series was harrowingly timely given the current political state.

“If I watch the politics of scarcity acted out on a TV show and it’s not me, I can look at that and say, ‘Hmm, this is wrong,” Diggs said. “‘The way that the distribution of resources is enacted in the world is wrong and I do have a choice; I participate in that.'”

He continued, “The reason why we make art [is] to examine ourselves in a way that allows us to be entertained as well because we’ll get the message. That is a little bit easier to swallow than being preached to.”

“Snowpiercer” Season 4 premieres July 21 on AMC. Check out the trailer below.
