'Socially unaware' Adam Sandler criticised for repeatedly touching actress Claire Foy's leg

Adam Sandler shocked viewers when he appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday [27 October], with the Hollywood actor’s bizarre behaviour prompting backlash online.

Dubbed as “awkward” throughout the interview, Sandler was particularly criticised for repeatedly touching the leg of British actress Claire Foy, who was also appearing on the chat show.

Claire pushed the actor’s hand away from her thigh on more than one occasion, with fellow actress Emma Thompson also giving Sandler a “disapproving” look as she sat on the other side of him on the sofa.

At one point in the show, 33-year-old Foy visibly squirmed as she was forced to move Sandler’s hand away two times in quick succession:

Thompson stars alongside Sandler in new film ‘The Meyerowitz Stories’ and has led the outrage of “endemic” sexual harassment in Hollywood in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

The 58-year-old star said that Weinstein was “at the top of the ladder of is a system of harassment, and belittling, and bullying, and interference” within the industry, adding: “I didn’t know about these things, but they don’t surprise me at all, and they’re endemic to the system anyway.

“Do they have to all be as bad as him to make it count? Does it only count if you really have done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you do it to one woman once? I think the latter.”

More than 50 women, many high-profile stars, have accused Weinstein of sexual assault and even rape in the past few weeks, with the high-powered movie mogul denying all allegations against him.

Sandler’s reps have already responded to the backlash that his behaviour has faced, describing the touch as “a friendly gesture”, and referencing a similar encounter that Sandler had with actor Dustin Hoffman on the Jimmy Fallon show earlier this month.
