Arsenal title-winner Sol Campbell has said Arsene Wenger need more players like Alexis Sanchez if they want to win titles… just as the Chilean moves closer to his Emirates exit.

Though Arsenal still hope to convince Sanchez to sign a new contract with his current deal due to expire next summer it appears increasingly likely that the Gunners will have to sell their star player in the summer.

Sanchez’s frustrations boiled over before the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool earlier this month and relations between club and player have grown more strained in recent months as the 28-year-old’s demands have alienated his team-mates.

But Campbell, who two titles and three FA Cups after switching from Tottenham to Arsenal in 2001, believes Sanchez is exactly the sort of player Wenger needs more of.

“If you want to win things, you've got to have more guys like that,” he told ESPNFC.

Campbell added: “[Arsenal need] more [Alexis] Sanchez-type of mentality players, from defenders to upfront. I think that for me they need more players like that on the pitch.

“Sanchez would easily play in our [Invincibles] side.”

Wenger confirmed last week that talks with both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would be postponed until the summer with little progress having been made towards Arsenal matching the pair’s demands of over £250,000-a-week.

Ozil however has offered a more optimistic assessment of his future, saying last week that he was “very happy at Arsenal and in London”, and is believed to be more likely than Sanchez to put pen to paper on a new deal.
