A retailer opening its doors in Solihull has pledged to bring an "unrivalled shopping experience" after customers asked for it. The opening in Mell Square follows months of movement from different businesses shuffling in and out of the town.

The town centre's retail hub has been a hive of activity in recent months, with a handful of new arrivals as well as the shock exit of TK Maxx after months of speculation, a move labelled by Solihull Council as disappointing.

Quorn Stone, an "upscale emporium" which labels itself as the "UK’s leading premium tile company" confirmed this week it was to open in Mell Square's old Trespass store. The store's arrival, which tile bosses said would create new jobs, lands in a period of significant movement in Solihull town centre.

Trespass moved from the premises to the former Mountain Warehouse unit, also in Mell Square. Quorn Stone will open on April 20 at 9am with four new jobs. The brand was founded in 1995 by Ramon Fernandez and imports porcelain, ceramic and natural stone tiles.

Brother and sister, Joshua Fernández and Isabel Fernández run the second-generation family-owned firm. Isabel said: “Combining the best elements of both city and country living, Solihull is the perfect location for Quorn Stone to put down new roots.

"Our tiles offer the quiet luxury of a natural aesthetic but are adapted for modern living, and we know residents will appreciate our blend of beauty and practicality. Many residents have been in touch asking us to open a showroom in the area, and we are delighted we can now oblige.”

The family-run business added that "hand-selected tile experts" will be on hand to provide an "exclusive" service.

We look below at what shoppers can expect in Solihull as a number of shops move in and out of the town centre:

  • TK Maxx in Mell Square closed its Mell Square store for good after initially shutting temporarily in February. The council said they will "continue to explore options" for alternative temporary uses for the premises ahead of redevelopment which is likely to commence in late 2025. • Outdoors shop Trespass opened a new store in the former Mountain Warehouse unit after vacating its old unit, which was also in Mell Square

  • Handcrafted British furniture maker Arlo & Jacob moved into 26-28 Mill Lane, replacing card shop Wishes & Kisses. The store opened at the end of March

  • Popular sourdough pizza chain Franco Manca submitted plans to transform the former Laura Ashley unit in Solihull town centre, but more than one year on there was no sign of them moving in. Read our planning update here.

  • Over in Touchwood shopping centre, coffee fans were left "gutted" after Nespresso closed its store last month, which was also popular for its pod recycling service.

  • Spinners Crazy Golf and Bowling will also be opening a venue up in Touchwood with pizza, cocktails and beer on offer alongside a range of indoor games. Latest on the upcoming opening here.

  • 'Touchwood Street', a fictional street set up months ago to hide a 'top secret opening' in the shopping centre remains in place. The new unit will occupy what was the old Topshop and Holland & Barrett stores, but bosses have been tight-lipped on what shoppers can expect. Read what we know so far, here.
