South African Police Clash With Protesters Over Student Debt Payments

Students in Durban, South Africa, clashed with riot police on a university campus on February 19 after two weeks of protests over a decision to require returning students pay a portion of their historic debts before they can register.

The decision overturns a promise by former president Jacob Zuma to grant free higher education.

According to local reports, a professor was hit with a brick during the clashes, which saw fires lit on the campus.
