South Australian Woman Accused of Pledging Allegiance to Islamic State

A 22-year-old Adelaide woman was arrested on Tuesday, May 23, on charges that she was a member of Islamic State, having allegedly pledged her allegiance to the organisation.

According to The Adelaide Advertiser the woman was arrested at a residence in western Adelaide.

“It is concerning that people so young remain susceptible to extremist ideologies and are willing to engage in criminal activities that attract significant penalties,” AFP Counter Terrorism Assistant Commissioner Ian McCartney said.

“We target criminals and criminal activity, not ideologies or backgrounds. The Joint Counter Terrorism Team will closely examine any individual that supports an extremist group.” Credit: SA Police News via Storyful
