South Park has made fun of basketball player LeBron James in its latest episode, after he condemned Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for his tweet supporting Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protesters.

Morey’s tweet, which he later deleted, led to his team having their games pulled from Chinese TV, as well as Chinese sponsors withdrawing support.

When asked about the tweet, the Los Angeles Lakers star said: “Yes, we do have freedom of speech, but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you are not thinking about others and only thinking about yourself.”

This exact quote was repeated by Cartman in the latest episode of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s comedy show.

The episode sees healthier lunches introduced at South Park Elementary School after complaints from some of the students. This doesn’t sit well with Cartman, who is told by a fellow student in favour of the change that they have freedom of speech and the right to protest their beliefs.

This is when he repeats James’s controversial quote word for word. Cartman also mentions “taco Tuesday”, which is something the basketball star has mentioned several times in the past on his twitter page.

South Park has been censored in China for criticising the government and calling out Hollywood and the NBA for doing business with the country.

Last week, Stone and Parker also issued a mock apology to China, writing on Twitter: “Like the NBA, we welcome the Chinese censors into our homes and into our hearts.”
